There are three kinds of bond used to solidify diamond grains in grinding wheel: resin, metal and vitrified bond.
Resin bond diamond grinding wheel has good self-sharpness, high grinding efficiency, low grinding heat, and can improve the surface roughness of workpiece.
Metal bond diamond grinding wheel has high strength, good working surface geometry retention, long life and impact resistance.
The vitrified bond diamond grinding wheel is sintered at high temperature, the vitrified bond material has good thermal stability, and can still maintain high control force on the diamond abrasive under high grinding temperature. The grinding wheel has long service life, strong grinding ability, low grinding temperature, strong self-sharpening, sharp state lasting, and high grinding efficiency.
However, these three kinds of bond can not completely meet the requirements of diamond grinding wheel. Resin bond is organic material, limited by the resin itself, grinding wheel heat resistance, water resistance, wear resistance is poor, can not be used for precision forming grinding. Metal bond diamond grinding wheel has poor self-sharpening and low efficiency. In the manufacturing process of diamond grinding wheel, the wettability of the vitrified bond to diamond is poor, which greatly reduces the holding force of the finishing agent to diamond, and the diamond is easy to fall off and the loss is large in the grinding process.
