In the milling process, according to the relationship between the rotation direction of the milling cutter and the workpiece contact part and the cutting feed direction, it can be divided into two kinds of climb milling and up milling. When the rotation direction of the milling cutter and the workpiece contact part and the workpiece feed direction is the same, that is, the component force of the milling cutter on the workpiece in the feed direction is the same as the workpiece feed direction. It called climb milling. When the direction of rotation of the milling cutter and the workpiece contact surface is opposite to the direction of cutting feed, it is called up milling.
In climb milling, the component of the cutting speed direction on the feed direction of the cutting point is consistent with the feed speed direction, which is often used to obtain good surface quality. It is suitable for machining high alloy steel under better cutting conditions because it has the advantages of less wear of rear tool surface and stable operation of machine tool. The disadvantage is that it is not suitable for machining workpiece with hardened surface (such as castings), because the blade must pass through the hardened surface of the workpiece from the outside, resulting in strong wear.
Up milling cutting point when the cutting speed direction in the component on the direction of feed and feed speed in the opposite direction, in view of the fact that this way will produce some side effects, such as blade wear speed up after reducing the blade durability, in, surface hardening, high alloy steel processing surface quality is not ideal, so rarely used in processing.
Climb milling
Application:
There is no hard skin on the workpiece surface;
No clearance on the feed mechanism of the machine tool.
Suitable material: aluminum magnesium alloy, titanium alloy heat - resistant alloy.
Advantages of climb milling : good surface quality of parts, small tooth wear, long service life.
Up milling
Application of up milling:
The surface of the workpiece is hard, such as casting and forging.
The feed mechanism of the machine tool has clearance.
Used for poor rigidity of machine tools, tool suspension elongation processing applications
Advantages of up milling:
(1)Cutting teeth from the processed surface, will not collapse;
(2) The clearance of the machine tool feed mechanism will not cause vibration and crawling.
Note:
Milling width: 60%~80% of milling cutter diameter
When the milling width is 100%, the cutter cannot remove chips, poor toughness, affecting the service life of the cutter
